Google adds real-time updates to tackle Bing

GoogleEven though Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, can’t hold a candlestick to that of Google, the search giant is not leaving anything to chance when it comes to competing with the new entrant.

Bing clocks 18 million visits every month, while Google India has unique monthly visits of 753 million.. Analysts say while Bing is in its infancy, it can grow up rapidly once it powers Yahoo! searches across the world.

Google is not sitting idle. By 2010, it will give its users information in a language of their choice (if it’s available on the web), translate the same and deliver the most relevant results.

“The document might be written in any language, but it will be instantly translated into English,” said Google Fellow Amit Singhal.

Google has also enhanced its search features to take Microsoft Bing’s search engine head on. It has announced the launch of real-time search that will include real-time data updates from sites like Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, MySpace, Jaiku, TwitArmy, among others. The company is also looking to add more content from various video sites.

On the other hand, some aspects of Bing — like product search, the new Bing Maps beta and mobile optimisation — rival Google’s offerings. And like Google, Bing too has signed deals with Facebook and Twitter to include real-time updates in its search results.

Google will now also personalise the search results of anyone who uses its search engine.
